THE DEVELOPMENT OF PROFESSIONAL BANDURA ART IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE 20TH CENTURY
Abstract
The article exemines in details the fundamental processes that formed the development of professional bandura art in the second half of the 20th century. This period is marked by a rapid transition from amateur music-making to a high level of concert performance. The author emphasizes the importance of the "thaw" period, which created a favorable conditions for the development of Ukrainian culture in general and bandura art in particular. The liberalization of society, increased interest in national heritage, and the revival of national self-consciousness served as powerful stimuli for the development of bandura art. Particular attention is paid to the significant modernization of the bandura's construction, thanks to the efforts of masters such as Oleksandr Korniievskyi, Serhii Bashtan and Vasyl Herasymenko, which allowed performers to achieve an unprecedented level of mastery. The emergence of chromatic banduras with an expanded range and improved acoustic properties opened up new possibilities for performance technique. The article traces the opening of specialized bandura classes in leading music institutions, such as the Kyiv and Lviv Conservatories, which was a crucial step in the establishment of professional bandura education. Outstanding educators like Volodymyr Kabachok and Vasyl Herasymenko who formed a national performing school. This research is of great importance for understanding the history of Ukrainian musical culture and the development of the national instrument – bandura.
