SPECIFICATIONS OF ORCHESTRA ACCOMPANIMENT
Abstract
The methodology of working on orchestral accompaniment for a soloist has its own specific features compared to the methodology of working on a purely orchestral work. The conductor is at this point an intermediate link between the soloist and the orchestra. The ability to interact as an ensemble with the soloist and at the same time with the orchestra is an indispensable condition for the successful work of a conductor. Performing a purely orchestral work, the conductor concentrates his attention only on managing the orchestra and regulating its actions, based on his own artistic ideas. In the performance of a work with a soloist, an additional complexity arises: the conductor has to manage not one, but two independent objects. And the conductor must be able to organically combine his interpretation of the work with the interpretation of the soloist. Therefore, the proposed article highlights the creative activity of the orchestral conductor precisely as an accompanist in the soloist – conductor – orchestra system, summarizes the artistic essence of his work on orchestral accompaniment to the soloist-instrumentalist and soloist-vocalist. In this context, such significant problems as the creation of a dynamic balance of sound relationships and the organization of a tempo-rhythmic ensemble between the soloist and the orchestra are considered, and the importance of the unity of the soloist and conductor's performing interpretation as the basis of the artistry of music performance is separately emphasized, which ultimately allows us to truly reveal the artistic intention of the author of the musical work. The article outlines the techniques of conducting technique that are advisable to apply in the conductor's accompanying practice when the part of the solo instrumentalist or solo vocalist has caesuras, textural, tessitural, dynamic, rhythmic, metrical, tempo and other performance difficulties, and provides methodological advice, especially for novice conductors, concerning the theoretical foundations of the art of mastering orchestral accompaniment.
