GRANTS OF THE UKRAINIAN STARTUP FUND TO SUPPORT TECHNOLOGY COMPANIES
Abstract
The article examines the possibilities of grant assistance of the Ukrainian Startup Fund and the Western NIS Enterprise Fund. It has been demonstrated that this instrument of financial support is relevant for Ukrainian technology startups, in particular, grants in the amount of 25,000 to 50,000 dollars. Grant funding can be used for expenses related to the implementation of the startup project: payment of salaries of team members, consulting services, purchase of equipment, marketing and promotion in the market. Focus areas of grant support are outlined, namely: AR/VR, blockchain, medicine, energy, fintech, artificial intelligence, e-government, legaltech and biotechnology. The study emphasizes that projects at the pre-seed and seed stages can be funded by grant resources of the Ukrainian Startup Fund. It is emphasized that the grant program provides an opportunity for start-up companies to develop and release new or improved technologies, products, organizational and technical solutions of a production, administrative, commercial or other nature to the market. The project selection algorithm was demonstrated, which consists of the following stages of application review and evaluation: internal compliance, expert evaluation, pitch and evaluation by the tender committee, approval by the Fund's Supervisory Board. After analyzing the tender documentation, we formulated a number of recommendations for startups who plan to participate in the competitive selection of project proposals. It is noted that, provided that the applicant organizations comply with all the eligibility criteria of the grant program and develop the project in accordance with the recommendations, the project proposals of startups have a high chance of being properly evaluated by the tender commission, which makes a decision on providing funding to projects. The role of the UFS in the process of formation of the startup ecosystem is extremely important, and its joint grant program with WNISEF can qualitatively change the course of development of technology companies. It is concluded that the effect of this grant support will be felt at the level of processes of stimulating economic growth and strengthening the international image of Ukraine.
